We very pleased to be able to announce our new classroom structure and staff appointments for 2016.
In 2017, we are running three classrooms on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We will have a Junior Room of Preps and Year 1, a Middle Room of Years 2, 3 and 4, and a Senior Room of Years 5 and 6. On these days, the classroom teachers will focus intensely on Reading, Writing and Maths. In all classes, the average size will be 10 students with one teacher.
On Thursdays and Fridays, we will revert to the two classes, a P-2, and a 3-6. On these days we have our specialists, as well as continuing our Everton Days every second Thursday.
As a whole staff and school council, we feel targeting our students in even smaller groups where we can hone in on improving their core literacy and numeracy skills is such an advantage to ours students as learners. For our Year 3 and 4 students next year, they will have the benefits of both tailored literacy and numeracy classes for the majority of the week, as well as transition into Pauline’s Senior Room and develop their organisation, be introduced to Humanities, History, Geography and some of the other curriculum areas that begin in the Upper Primary Years, and work with older peers in the afternoons on research projects, sport, the values program and more.
Our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden program has commenced and is being taught by Fran. We are utilising our outdoor kitchen which is on our deck and undercover. Our dining space is outdoor tables beneath the iconic ‘Big Tree’. Local families and farmers are supporting us and providing additional produce that we use to create wonderful dishes from cuisines from around the world.
