The school currently operates with a three classroom structure: Foundation to Year 2; the Junior room, and a Year 3 to Year Six room; the Senior classroom. We operate a third group—the Middle group for literacy and numeracy sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Students move fluidly between the Junior, Middle and Senior rooms based on learning ability and needs. In all classes, the average size has 10 students with one teacher.
On Tuesdays and Fridays, we revert to the two classes, a P-2, and a 3-6. On these days we have our specialist programs which include Art, Italian, Library/Science and STEM Challenges.
As a whole staff and school council, we feel targeting our students in even smaller groups where we can hone in on improving their core literacy and numeracy skills is such an advantage to ours students as learners. For our Year 3 and 4 students, they will have the benefits of both tailored literacy and numeracy classes for the majority of the week, as well as transition into the Senior Room developing their organisation skills, be introduced to Humanities, History, Geography and some of the other curriculum areas that begin in the upper primary years. They will have the opportunity to work with older peers in the afternoons on research projects, sport, the values program and more.
Our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden program utilises our indoor and outdoor kitchen which is on our deck and undercover. Our dining space is outdoors on the deck or beneath the iconic ‘Big Tree’. We have our own vegie garden and local families and farmers are supporting us and providing additional produce that we use to create wonderful dishes from cuisines from around the world.
